Mutoon categories

For Al-Arba‘ūn An-Nawawiyyah, judges may ask for the start or continuation of a Hadith (حديث ḥadīth), a random Hadith, a passage to complete, or the correct order and words. They also assess pronunciation and fluency.

For Al-Adhkār wal-Ādāb, judges may ask for random parts of the syllabus or a passage to complete. They assess the correct order and words, pronunciation, fluency and continuity.

The rules list what judges assess. The Organizing Committee will share the scoring process and any further instructions.

Only residents of Tamil Nadu may enter. There is no age limit for Qur’an or Mutoon categories.

You cannot take part if you:

• Are a serving Masjid (مسجد masjid) Imam (إمام imām) who has completed Hifz of the Qur’an.
• Currently teach at a Madrasa (مدرسة madrasah), including Qur’an, Hifz, Arabic (العربية al-ʿarabiyyah), Islamic Studies or any other Madrasa subject.
• Are a school teacher, including a teacher of Arabic, Qur’an, Hifz, Islamic Studies or other Qur’an or Arabic subjects.
• Graduated from an international Islamic university.
• Previously won a prize in any National or International Qur’an or Mutoon competition, in any country or from any organization.

Documents you must send

• A valid Aadhaar Card that shows an address in Tamil Nadu.
• A Bonafide Certificate from the Madrasa where you memorized the Qur’an, the school where you studied or memorized, or the Ustad (أستاذ ustādh) you learned from. It should show your memorization background and where or with whom you learned.
• Any other identity or supporting document the Organizing Committee asks for.

You may be disqualified if you:

1. Give false information during sign-up.
2. Send a forged or changed document.
3. Hide information that makes you ineligible.
4. Are found to have won a prize before in a National or International Qur’an or Mutoon competition.
5. Are found to be in one of the groups that cannot take part.
6. Use help that is not allowed during the competition.
7. Use a mobile phone, smartwatch, notes, Mushaf (المصحف muṣḥaf) or other material that is not allowed during testing.
8. Get help from another person during testing.
9. Try to contact or influence a judge during testing.
10. Disrespect judges, organizers, volunteers or other participants.
11. Cheat, manipulate the competition or act in another dishonest way.

The Committee may check your documents and eligibility at any stage. If it finds ineligibility or misconduct after an award, it may take back the prize and certificate.

Different steps for Qur’an and Mutoon

From sign-up
to the final.

Qur’an: three stages

1. Video screening: Send a clear video with Qur’an recitation of no more than 3 minutes. You may choose any passage. Judges look at recitation quality, voice and style, Tajweed, pronunciation and fluency.
2. Remote examination: People who pass screening are invited to a Zoom examination. Judges may ask random passages, continuation after interruption, Mutashābihāt, Hifz, Harakāt, Tajweed, Makharij, Waqf and Ibtidā’, and overall recitation.
3. Final in person: People who pass the remote examination are invited to the venue chosen by MUHI. Judges use the Qur’an judging criteria. Final results depend on performance in this final examination.

Mutoon: two stages

1. Remote examination: Eligible participants are invited to a Zoom examination. Judges assess memorization, wording, order, pronunciation, Harakāt, fluency, continuation after interruption, random recall, confidence and calm.
2. Final in person: People who pass are invited to the venue chosen by MUHI. Judges use the Mutoon judging criteria. Final results depend on performance in this final examination.

The Committee works for fair treatment, checked eligibility, impartial judging, private and honest examinations, respectful conduct, and accurate recording and review of results. It may give extra instructions to keep the event fair and orderly.
